Il Sole 24 Ore, turnaround in sight: via the CEO Moscetti

Confindustria, dissatisfied with the circulation and financial results of Il Sole 24 Ore, is preparing to change CEO: via Moscetti and likely return of Cerbone, now CEO of Ansa – The newspaper's management hangs in the balance

Il Sole 24 Ore, turnaround in sight: via the CEO Moscetti

Reversal in view of the Sole 24 Ore, the economic and financial journal of Confindustria. The controlling shareholder is not at all happy with the newspaper's results and is preparing to fire the managing director, Franco Moscetti, who has been at the helm of Amplifon but has no previous experience in publishing.

Despite the 50 million capital increase and the sale of training activities, the financial statements of Il Sole, net of non-recurring income, remain in the red and discount the 20 percent drop in circulation. Losses that are reflected in the accounts of Confindustria itself which is therefore preparing to quickly turn the page.

In the corridors of the Confindustria assembly yesterday there was talk of the very concrete possibility that the current CEO of Ansa, Giuseppe Cerbone, who in the past was managing director and general manager of Il Sole, who he knows well, could be called to replace Moscetti.

It remains to be seen whether the imminent changing of the guard at the helm of the publishing company will also lead to changes in the direction of the newspaper, now entrusted to Guido Gentili, but it is probable that, at least until the debut of the new graphic layout scheduled for next 5 June and until upon the arrival of the new CEO, the situation will remain temporarily frozen.
