Il Sole 24 Ore: copies in decline, CEO Moscetti resigns

Rumors confirmed. Franco Moscetti tenders his resignation and leaves the leadership of Il Sole 24 Ore less than two years after his arrival "considering his mandate concluded with the creation and launch of the new Sun 24 Hours“. The group made it known in a note.

Moscetti had assumed the position of CEO in November 2016, "in a difficult moment in the history of the group", explains the press release. In fact, Il Sole 24 Ore was arriving after years of negative balance sheets and the former number one of Amplifon had been called precisely to try to put the accounts back in order.

Despite under his management the Sole 24 Ore group managed to return to profit (but with non-recurring capital gains linked to asset sales) and Moscetti intervened to cut costs by over 42 million euros, Confindustria, the controlling shareholder, did not seem to be satisfied with the results obtained, both on the publishing front and on that of revenues, which fell to 229 million also due to the sale of 49% of the Business Schools.

As anticipated indeed by FIRSTonline last May 24th “Despite the 50 million capital increase and the sale of the training activities, the financial statements of Il Sole, net of non-recurring income, remain in the red and discount a circulation drop of around 20 per cent”.

So the totonomi opens to understand who will be Moscetti's successor. According to the latest rumors at the helm of the group - which edits not only the newspaper but also Radio24 and the Radiocor news agency - Giuseppe Carbone could arrive, now CEO of Ansa and former general manager of Il Sole 24 Ore.

In Piazza Affari, following the release of the news, the share rose by 1,5% to 0,679 euro.
