The Sag Group lands in India and Türkiye. The goal is to grow on two rapidly developing markets

The Sag Group – a group of companies active in the shaping and processing of pipes and components for cars, tractors, agricultural machines and earthmoving machines with a consolidated turnover of around 50 million euros – has decided to increase its international presence by expanding into India and Turkey. As regards the Indian market, Sag Group has set up an equal joint venture with Hy-Tech Engineers, an Indian fittings manufacturer. The headquarters of the new company, called Sag Hy-Tech Tubes Pvt. Ltd., will be in Pune, where there is one of the largest automotive districts in India and the manufacturing facility will cover at least 1.000 square meters. The strategy of the Joint Venture envisages the machining of hydraulic components for the local market, initially in the agricultural and earthmoving sectors. The strategy adopted on the Turkish market is different, where a company incorporated under local law was established in Istanbul: Sag Hidrolik Ticaret Sanayi Limited Sirketi. The production plant, near the main airport of the capital, in this case will be over 2.000 square meters. “Today more than ever – explains Walter Zini, president of Sag Group – we have to deal with a global market. For this reason we have decided to follow our group's historical customers on site". According to Zini, faced with a scenario dominated by new players, Italian companies must reformulate their concept of made in Italy: setting up companies under local law or finding a local partner, no longer relying solely on exports. To complete the two operations, the Sag Group made use of the collaboration of Octagona, an internationalization consultancy company, with offices in New Delhi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and New York and an indirect presence in other areas with a strong development such as Turkey, Brazil and North Africa. “For Italian SMEs – explains Alessandro Fichera, CEO of Octagona – the development path in these markets is always very complex. In the case of Sag Group we have integrated into the management team, becoming an integral part of the structure".
