The price of corruption: every year it costs us ten billion of GDP

The corruption like a poison that pollutes Italian morale and coffers, costing us around 10 billion euros in terms of GDP. This is the verdict of the dossier (“Corruption, the figures of the hidden tax that impoverishes and pollutes the country") associations Libera, Legambiente and Public Notice, presented today at the Fnsi headquarters (the unitary union of Italian journalists) in Rome.
A hidden and very high tax, in terms of loss of wealth and ethics. “That's enough” thundered Don Ciotti, president of Libera, “clear and clear-cut, indeed categorical, choices are needed. As in the fight against the mafia, mediation is not possible in the fight against corruption, which holds democracy hostage and joins the ethical emergency. Our country is in a state of 'ethical coma' and is culturally depressed; it is a country in which it is considered normal to protect personal gain”.
So there are the words, Don Ciotti's nausea for an increasingly accepted malpractice, with bowed head, as something inherent in our nation, and then there are the frightening numbers of the dossier: thethe burden of corruption on the Italian public budget is estimated, by default, at between 50 and 60 billion euros a year, while, as mentioned, the loss of wealth caused by corruption is 10 billion. Twelve Italian citizens out of 100, then, were asked for a bribe against a European average of eight.
In this regard, Ermete Realacci, Pd deputy, declared that "the data contained in the dossier is a further strong push to approve as soon as possible, and in any case within the legislature, the anti-corruption bill", on which the Minister of Justice Severino said she was very optimistic, in days ago, expecting a quick conclusion.
