The Italian tomato goes on a mission to the USA

Exports and interest in our "red gold" are growing. The Producers Association uses funds from a European project.

The Italian tomato goes on a mission to the USA

Tomato forever. New York, Chicago, Orlando are celebrating these days for Italy's symbolic product. Americans enraptured by diets and thousands of guides on how to lose weight, in fact, do not give up condiments with our red. Pizza, pasta, salads: everything, more on the tables of the metropolis and small towns. It can be consumed without problems, perhaps also discovering the many healing virtues of San Marzano or Pachino. We are not complaining and we are careful that exports to the USA, already increased by 5,4%, go even higher. Their value in volume has grown by over 3%, says the National Association of canned food manufacturers, engaged in the States until July to further promote the consumption of DOC tomatoes. There is a project financed by the European Union, of which President Trump does not know and we pray to God he does not find out, due to his suspicions towards the EU and the crazy choice of tariffs.

Anicav is managing a calendar of events starting from New York. A series of cooking sessions as part of the Summer Fancy Food. In the big apple four renowned restaurants offer recipes and menus based only on tomatoes. Until July 1st, however, it will be Chicago that will be serving the red-tinged dishes in as many selected places. The road trip will conclude in Orlando, Florida on August 8. An event of the American Culinary Federation, an organization of professional chefs from North America, will take place here. "The aim of the program - the general manager of Anicav Giovanni De Angelis said at the start - is to make American consumers aware of the unique characteristics of the Italian tomato, enhancing its quality, taste, versatility, safety and origin". There are Americans to conquer, but the average citizen of the North or South eats a plate of spaghetti with tomato sauce very often for dinner out or at home.

The Italian supply chain is organised. American chefs and other nationalities who work or manage restaurant chains are increasingly attracted by Italian cookbooks and the culinary traditions of our country. Italian food has contaminated cinema, literature and art. There is an abundance of anecdotes about unwitting (?) local testimonials from politics, music, entertainment about getting together in front of a tomato-based dish. We want to enhance our products more strongly in a mature market where, unfortunately, the problem of the Italian sounding that takes away our economic resources is still strong, declared the Anicav representatives. The reverse of a coin that in economic value is today 6% of the total exports directed overseas. Provided that the President does not think of treating the Italian tomato as the Mexican subject to customs duties.
