The Southern Plan is being examined by the Cipe, scheduled for tomorrow

The meeting of the Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning has been convened on Wednesday to discuss the draft resolution prepared: 5 major works of "national strategic importance" for a total of 7,34 billion euro.

The Southern Plan is being examined by the Cipe, scheduled for tomorrow

Five major "series A" works, considered to be of national strategic importance, will be submitted for analysis by the Cipe, convened for tomorrow: the funding, in the event of a green light from the Committee, will come from the "Southern Floor". They are the Naples-Bari fast railway (790 million euros), the Sassari-Olbia state road (406,5 million), the Salerno-Reggio Calabria railway (240 million), the completion of the Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway (217 million ) and the Catania-Palermo railway (which, however, will not receive new resources in the first phase).

The preliminary hypothesis of the Plan developed by Raffaele Fitto, Minister for the Regions with responsibility for territorial cohesion, together with Altero Matteoli, Minister of Infrastructure, provides for another 5.691,2 million to be assigned to a hundred interregional and regional infrastructures. In addition to roads and railways, there are also water schemes (Calabria and Sardinia), ports and freight villages (Campania), production settlement areas, broadband and tourism (Puglia). In all, the resources will amount to 7.344,8 million euros, to be divided between national and local works. The allocation of resources among the regions is established as follows by the draft resolution prepared: 1.197,9 million to Sicily, 1.181,6 million to Campania, 925,5 million to Puglia, 723,3 million to Calabria, 657,9 million to Sardinia , 586,5 million to Molise, 418,5 million to Basilicata.

The Plan should arrive at the Cipe tomorrow, after the discussion had already been postponed last week, due to the negative opinion of Tremonti, who threatens not to participate in the committee meeting. On the other hand, there is the undersecretary of the Prime Minister, Gianfranco Miccichè, who is pushing for the Plan to be examined by the CIPE as soon as possible. What does not convince the Economy Minister is the excessive weight, within the Plan, of works of regional importance compared to those considered strategic for the entire country. Furthermore, according to data, the 1.653,6 million allocated to major national strategic works cover only 14,4% of the total financial requirement for their completion, estimated at 11.442,6 million, while the 5.691,2 million resources allocated to interregional and regional works cover over 80% of their needs, set at 7.040,5 million.
