Noma in Copenhagen, first restaurant in the world, four Italian chefs among the top 50

him again, Rene Redzepi: for the fifth time in its history the patron of Noma, the legendary Copenhagen restaurant climbs to the top of The World's 50 Best Restaurants ranking. Opened in 2003 in a warehouse on the artificial island of Christianshavn, Rene Redzepi's restaurant has conquered all possible rankings, including three Michelin stars. Fantasy, creativity, provocation, irony, fun and a great love for nature are its ingredients. In addition to the ability to always know how to get involved. Like in 2013 when he had an accident: a group of customers fell ill at the end of a dinner.

After the initial discouragement and a temporary block, the great chef got back to work and reaped successes again. With the pandemic, he suspended his business for a year, then decided to open an outdoor burger joint in contact with nature. Time to study a new future for his restaurant and here he is still riding the top of the world rankings.

Second place also remains in Denmark of The World's 50 Best Restaurants awarded to Geranium also in Copenhagen.  For the bronze medal we move instead to Spain, it was conquered by Asador Etxebarri Atxondo, Spain.

Excellent performance by the great Italian chefs. To occupy the fifteenth place of the prestigious classification is Lido 84, the Camanini brothers' restaurant in Gardone Riviera in the Brescia area. This is the big surprise this year since in the previous ranking Il Lido 84 was placed on step no. 78: “Opened in 2014, Lido 84 – the judges underlined – uses creative cooking techniques to perfectly capture the flavors of Lake Garda. Riccardo and Giancarlo Camanini want to achieve excellence through local products, such as bagoss and raw mountain milk”. Three positions down, in 18th place stands Piazza Duomo di Alba (Cn) by Enrico Crippa. Le Calandre di Rubano (Pd) of the Alajmo family occupies the 26th position, followed by a few lengths in 29th place by Il Reale by Niko Romito of Castel di Sangro (Aq).

And that's not all for our country. Because the tricolor still stands out in the rest of the ranking which extends to the top 100 of the best restaurants in the world. An honorable fifty-second place was conquered by Marco and Catia Uliassi with their restaurant in Senigallia and two locations later, at 54th, we find the St. Hubertus of San Cassiano with chef Norbert Niederkofler.

The results of The World's 50 Best Restaurants were announced at a live ceremony in Antwerp, Belgium.

This which concluded yesterday is the first list of the 50 best restaurants in the world since the beginning of the pandemic. The votes for the 2021 list took into account the votes cast for the 2020 list

Over the course of the 19 editions of this prestigious event, only European or North American restaurants have occupied the band of restaurants at the top of the ranking.

However, scrolling through the list of this year's awardees we find that many restaurants speak Spanish, there are eleven among Spain, which conquered the third position, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico.

1000 the judges have sanctioned this year's list which appears to be strongly declined on male chefs. Overall, the top 50 included only four restaurants led by female chefs, one fewer than last year following chef Daniela Soto-Innes' departure from Enrique Olvera's Cosme in New York.
