The nebulous 5-star future between public spending and conspiracy

From a careful analysis of the more than 500 bills presented by the five-star parliamentarians since the beginning of the legislature, published by La Stampa, a somewhat confused picture emerges that recalls the old trinomial on which the Bourbon government aimed to keep itself in power: "parties, flour and pitchfork".

The nebulous 5-star future between public spending and conspiracy

Wanting to be mischievous, the 5 Star program could be summarized in the old trinomial on which the Bourbon government aimed to keep itself in power: "parties, flour and the gallows". From the meager programmatic documents of the Grillino Movement, from the writings of Casaleggio, and from a study on bills presented in these three years by five-star parliamentarians elaborated by Alberto Mingardi and the Bruno Leoni Institute and published by La Stampa, it now emerges clearly what the grillini's cultural orientations are and what their policy could be once they come to power.

To take the proposals of this movement seriously, it is important to abandon the idea that their votes derive from a simple and momentary "anti-political" impulse, that is, of protest, while we must understand that we are faced with a strong demand for a different politics by social groups who feel marginalized, they are afraid of losing what they have painstakingly built so far, and therefore ask politics for "protection from a future considered uncertain and threatening".

The 5 Stars respond to this demand for protection by bundling recipes, regardless of their coherence, but capable of satisfying the expectations of each individual category. In concrete terms, examining the more than 500 bills presented by parliamentarians, it clearly emerges that the Movement proposes an increase in public spending, accompanied by a reduction in taxes, and in general a tighter state control over economic activities through an increase in the rules and a tightening of the prohibitions. There is essentially attention to small businesses and retail trade, together with the guarantee of income for all citizens through the proposal of the "citizenship income" of which, however, neither the extent nor the amount is specified.

The second crucial aspect of the grillina action is the conspiracy maniapartly confused with the fight against corruption, which takes the form of an enormous number of bills for the establishment of parliamentary commissions of inquiry into everything that has happened in the last twenty years, from the high-speed to FIAT, up to the causes of deindustrialization.

It is a real conspiracy theory based on the belief that facts happen only because there is someone who maneuvers the levers to determine them, and not because the imperfection of human things makes them happen. In commenting on Mingardi's analysis in La Stampa, Prof. Giovanni Orsina states with great lucidity that according to the grillina culture "the utopia of a perfect society, or in any case well functioning, is at hand. If it is not reached, it is because someone prevents us from doing so”. Hence the opposition not only to the other political parties (with which any agreement is unthinkable) but also to all the so-called strong powers, which, moreover, according to this conspiratorial mentality, are often also hidden. This chapter also includes the justicialist mentality and the closeness of the movement to the fighting judiciary, such as that personified by Davigo.

Ultimately, if we deprive speeches of rhetorical statements, the Grillini program consists in creating high inflation through public spending, thus reducing public debt but impoverishing employees and pensioners, and in promoting strong control over citizens by the bureaucracy and of the Judiciary. In short, distribute "flour" (even if damaged), put up the "gallows" which these days, fortunately, are mainly media. And the holidays? Grillo will take care of those, he's good at organizing mass shows!
