Milan conquers Marassi: only Juve has sealed the first

With a goal from Diaz, Pioli's Rossoneri beat Sampdoria and now they no longer hide their dreams of the Scudetto – Pellegri and Bakayoko are arriving from the transfer market and the management is negotiating a new playmaker

Milan conquers Marassi: only Juve has sealed the first

Good first. Also Milan are starting their championship in the best possible way beating Sampdoria with a goal from Brahim Diaz, thus responding to Inter, Naples, Rome, Lazio and Atalanta. All in all, at the end of the opening day, all the greats have won except Juventus, given by many as the favorite for the Scudetto, demonstrating a championship that is perhaps technically poorer than before, but always balanced and fought like few others in the world.

Going back to Marassi's match, we saw a good game, with high pace for an abundant hour and chances on both sides. The Rossoneri won, ruthless away just like last season, when they established the all-time Serie A record with 16 hits away from San Siro. The decisive signature, as mentioned at the beginning, was put by him Diaz (9'), currently starting attacking midfielder after Calhanoglu's farewell and waiting for Maldini and Massara to buy another one: if the Spaniard wanted to give a signal, he succeeded quite well, there's no denying, even if on his goals weigh the mistakes of Augello, guilty of having left the field to Calabria with a reckless stop, and Audero, at least uncertain in trying to save a shot that is anything but irresistible.

Milan has thus found itself ahead after a few minutes, with the possibility of hitting again in the spaces, but also of managing the ball. The mission succeeded quite well, if only because the result, which is the most important thing, remained unchanged until the end, but the absences of Kessié, Ibrahimovic and Bennacer (started from the bench because still weakened by Covid) prevented a greater brilliance in the offensive phase, thus leaving the match open to the return of Sampdoria, who in turn lacked coolness in the goal area.

Also worth noting is a excellent debut for Mike Maignan, a special observation of the match: the look of Donnarumma's nostalgics could weigh heavily, but the Frenchman responded present with a couple of important saves, ultimately decisive for the victory.

“Sampdoria played a good match, but I also liked ours a lot – the cPioli's comment at the press conference -. We did well because we were well prepared, we won by suffering and I'm sure we will need this to continue growing. The market? If we can improve the level and quality we will, but I'm very happy with the squad available and to have found the boys with the same spirit as last season. That's the important thing, then we'll see if quality players arrive”. Words in line with those of the company, as can be seen from Maldini's statements, who took stock of the Rossoneri market before the match. “We have a common line, whether they are renewals or new purchases – explained the director -. I am open to many solutions, but we have to do what is sustainable because in the past we have paid for another way of working. The Scudetto is a dream and I've always liked dreaming, you have to be realistic but we're stronger than last year".

In short, Milan are starting to improve on the previous championship and this, given the second place finish, can only mean one thing. It will take some time to understand if it will actually be possible, because the feeling is that this team something is still missing to be competitive at the highest levels. In via Aldo Rossi they know it well, which is why a new striker like Pilgrims (medical visits today), a midfielder like Bakayoko (Chelsea said yes to the loan with the right to buy) and, most likely, an attacking midfielder/external forward capable of increasing the technical rate of the squad, just as requested by Pioli. In the meantime, however, Milan have taken their first victory of the season, moreover on a treacherous pitch like that of Sampdoria, and can look forward to next week with optimism, which will be decisive in terms of the transfer market. In short, the answer has arrived, with all due respect to the competitors, who will have to deal with the Devil again this year.
