Brocchi's Milan disappoints and Carpi sees salvation

The new Rossoneri coach cues his debut at San Siro: miserable 0-0 for Milan in front of the Carpi dam who collects another precious point for salvation - And it could have been worse if a great Donnarumma hadn't saved Milan's goal at the 90th – Brocchi: "It was a clear step backwards compared to Marassi"

Brocchi's Milan disappoints and Carpi sees salvation

New Milan, old Milan. The postponement of the 34th matchday only smiles at Carpi, capable of leaving San Siro with a very precious 0-0 in terms of salvation. The Rossoneri, on the other hand, are forced to deal with another disappointment, the umpteenth one in a season far below initial expectations. It certainly couldn't have been thought that Brocchi had a magic wand but certainly something more was expected, especially after the good performance in Genoa.

Yesterday instead we saw a slow and monotonous team, almost as if the effect of the change on the bench had evaporated in a few days: we don't know what Mihajlovic thought when he watched the match but, perhaps, a half smile escaped him.

“It was a clear step backwards compared to Marassi, Milan have a duty to win these games – admitted Brocchi in the press conference. – It is necessary to field a greater competitive anger, we missed the finalization phase. We know where we went wrong and we will work on it, unfortunately, however, it takes time to acquire certain mechanisms".

True, indeed very true. Switching from 4-4-2 to 4-3-1-2 is a long and complicated process that would usually take a summer of work. But Brocchi does not have this time and it is he, so close to Berlusconi, who knows it. The Rossoneri coach, aware that not everything had worked out for the best in Genoa, tried to shuffle the cards by moving Bonaventura back into the midfield and launching Boateng in the delicate role of attacking midfielder.

A move that turned out to be wrong, a bit like the whole Milan match. Slow, confused, always on the hunt for individual play, the Rossoneri team ended up playing into the hands of Carpi, who went down to San Siro with two results out of three and with a fourth-from-bottom place that would not have escaped even in the event of a defeat. Castori's men erected a dam in defense of Belec and Milan were unable to scratch it even for a while.

Brocchi's team had two shots on goal: one in the opening (Boateng in the 6'), the other in closing (Alex in the 88'), otherwise Carpi defended but without suffering particularly. Indeed, it was precisely the Emilians who had the best chance of the whole match with Crimi, whose left-footed shot was only thwarted by a great Donnarumma (90').

At Guida's final whistle, many boos and frowns from the (little) crowd at San Siro, a bit like that of Bacca, who was replaced by Menez in the 70th minute and went out without even shaking his partner's hand. “That's the thing that saddens me the most – explained Brocchi. – His was a hot reaction to be stigmatized, I'm sure it won't happen again ". The club, currently united with the coach, is considering a fine; the umpteenth case of a sad Milan, disheartened and unable to change course.
