The Government thinks about the minimum income in the Stability Law

The Government intends to include the project for active inclusion (SIA), designed to guarantee a minimum income to the poor, in the context of the next Stability Law. This was announced by the Minister of Labour, Enrico Giovannini, reminding the Chamber of Deputies of the almost five million Italians below the poverty line due to the crisis, and reaffirming his commitment to the project on the basis of available government resources.

"It is not a basic income, but a support for the poor", explained the Minister and underlined how Italy is the only European country not to have such an instrument.

"The welfare mechanisms used so far - he added - being dedicated to the elderly and disabled, do not take into account the very serious problem of poverty of children and minors".
