The Draghi government is close but with or without the League?

With the meeting on Saturday morning with the Five Stars (led by Beppe Grillo) and with the League (led by Matteo Salvini), the prime minister in charge Mario Draghi closes the first round of his consultations: the Government is close but it will still be necessary to clarify whether beyond the forces of the outgoing majority and Forza Italia will also join the League or not

The Draghi government is close but with or without the League?

It strides forward and with a shower of Yes the formation of the first Draghi government who today led the second day of consultations and who tomorrow will close the first round by meeting the two major groups namely Salvini's League and the Five Stars which will be led by Beppe Grillo.

The achievement of a solid majority is no longer under discussion, but if anything there is the opposite problem and that is that almost all political forces would like to enter in the Government causing incompatibility. And in fact Leu clearly told Draghi that he does not like the participation of the League which sometimes turns up his nose in front of the Five Stars: he replied to them the leader of Italia Viva, Matteo Renzi, recalling that those who veto actually say No even to the appeal to the Government of national salvation launched by the Head of State when he gave Mario Draghi the task of forming the new Executive. An issue destined to return to the consultation table tomorrow morning as well but which certainly does not slow down Draghi's journey, who will be able to find the necessary synthesis. Even if creating an Ursula majority (Pd, Five Stars, IV, Leu + Forza Italia, + Europa and Calenda Action) is not the same thing as constituting a majority of national salvation (with everyone inside, including the League, except FdI of Meloni who excluded herself).

Today the consultations saw the prime minister in charge meet Italia Viva and Leu in the morning, Fratelli d'Italia, Pd and Forza Italia in the afternoon.

IV: Yes to Draghi without conditions, whoever vetoes says No to Mattarella

It was Matteo Renzi who led the Italia Viva delegation in the meeting with Draghi. Having been, often alone against everyone, the greatest supporter of the Draghi government, Renzi obviously confirmed his full "unconditional" support for the prime minister in charge and replied to those who - such as Leu and Lega - intend to make preliminary rulings by rejecting the possible participation in the Government of the League or that of the Five Stars. "Those who veto – Renzi argued – in fact say No to Mattarella's appeal for the government of national salvation". Renzi then specified that he will not be directly in the match and that he will not personally join the government team.

LEU: No to the presence of the League in the Draghi government

While announcing his willingness, but not at all costs, to support the nascent Draghi government, Leu told the prime minister in charge that, however, he does not like the presence of the League. "It is difficult to keep different forces together - said the group leader Fornaro - and we would never vote for a government that adopts the flat tax".

Brothers of Italy: No trust in the Draghi government

Giorgia Meloni confirmed the No to the Draghi government more for methodological reasons ("Early elections are better") than merit ("Never with Pd and Cinque Stelle"), but declared that her group could vote in Parliament for any measures of the 'Executive deemed useful to the country.

PD: Yes to Draghi but better with Ursula majority

Even the secretary of the Democratic Party, Nicola Zingaretti, who led the delegation in the meeting with Mario Draghi, confirmed his party's support for the nascent government but asked for a strong European characterization - a way of saying that it would be better to avoid the entry into the Executive of the League – and broke a spear in favor of a majority Ursula, which would therefore be composed of Pd, Cinque Stelle, Leu, Italia Viva, Calenda, Bonino and Forza Italia. In the coming days, the Democratic Party will send Draghi a planning document

Forza Italia: ready to vote for trust in Draghi

The scenic effect of the direct presence of President Silvio Berlusconi in the Forza Italia meeting with Draghi did not exist, but the Azzurri, led by Antonio Tajani, reiterated to the prime minister in charge of their willingness to support and enter directly into the nascent government, even at the cost of differentiating itself from the other forces of the center-right, which appears to be decomposing after the entry of the Draghi cyclone on the scene on the initiative of President Mattarella.
