The Giro belongs to Dumoulin, Nibali third

Stronger than the time, the opponents and the pressure of a forecast that wanted him to be the absolute favorite on the eve of the last race, Tom Dumoulin finishes 2nd in the decisive time trial – Monza-Milan, 29.3 km, 21st and last stage of this edition – conquering thus the centenary Giro d'Italia, which is also his first career triumph in a grand tour. Nothing to do for Quintana, Nibali and Pinot, direct opponents who remained in the race until the end in the race for the Trofeo Senza Fine: after more than three very tight and very tight weeks, however, Tom Dumoulin is the new king in the squad. The Colombian from Movistar pays 1'24” in today's time trial and thus sees the 53” advantage he had over his rival canceled out, closing his Giro in 2nd place. Vincenzo Nibali's comeback in the general standings stops just 9″ from Quintana: the Sicilian hits the pink podium at the end of a vigorous stage. Pinot's fraction was not convincing, announced as one of the most insidious outsiders in this time trial and instead collapsed to 1'27” from Dumoulin's 33'23”. Wooden medal for him ahead of the Russian Zakarin, 5th, and Domenico Pozzovivo, 6th.
