The popular day: accounts and governance

Work is in full swing around four important Italian cooperative banks: Banco Popolare, Bpm, Ubi Banca and Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna – The institutions are grappling with the presentation of half-yearly accounts and must make important decisions on their governance.

The popular day: accounts and governance

Today, the spotlight is on many popular banks. Above all, Bpm stands out, at the center of the markets' attention and waiting for two important tests: the presentation of the half-yearly accounts, scheduled for the day, and the work for the formation of a new governance, on which there is pressure from Bank of Italy.

While waiting for the accounts, in the morning, the stock of Popolare di Milano fell by 1,29% on the Stock Exchange, in line with a still negative Italian listing, while some news, as regards governance, could emerge during the conference call by the president Andrea Bonomi.

The most quoted hypothesis, at the moment, is that of a compromise between Bank of Italy's request for a net exchange rate and internal resistance: we are therefore moving towards the so-called balanced popular, while the hypothesis of a merger with other popular.

Similar speeches also for Banco Popolare, Ubi Banca and for Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna, grappling with the same knots, namely the presentation of half-yearly accounts and decisions on governance. As for Ubi, the half yearly it recorded profits more than halved, but still higher than expected (the stock, however, falls), while the supervisory board could undergo major changes, with a clear reduction in the number of directors.

The Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna, on the other hand, is moving towards granting more space to institutional investors, thus approaching the requests of the Bank of Italy, without renouncing the cooperative model
