Mostly unknown to us, but in the United States they are the equivalent of our Michelin guides: they are those of Zagat, the historic American publisher specializing in gastronomy. Indeed from now, one might say, in e-gastronomy, given the agreement signed with the IT giant Google which bought (saving it from bankruptcy) the shares of the house founded by Nina and Tim Zagat.

For Google, this is the second "old economy" purchase after that of Motorola, an investment to improve the service locally in order to sell more advertising for merchants.

“Zagat will be a pillar of our offerings, with the critiques and insights it provides that enable consumers to partake in extraordinary experiences at their street corner or around the world,” Google says on its blog.

Zagat for its part announces its sale as if it were presenting the critique of a restaurant, one of the services for which it is famous: Mountain View is "local", "social", "mobile" and "useful". "By bringing together content, resources and platforms, this dynamic duo aims to optimize the Zagat brand by offering consumers new ways to express their opinions and make decisions based on the information available."
