The Food king of the Stock Exchange: Campari best stock 2018

The red spirit, an icon of the made in Italy beverage, closed the calendar year gaining over 14% on the Ftse Mib, the main basket of Piazza Affari.

The spread is bad, the… spritz is good. In an overall negative 2018 for the Ftse Mib, the main basket of the Milan Stock Exchange, the best title was that of Campari, the red spirit made in Italy also famous for being an ingredient of the aperitif drink invented in Veneto. In fact, while in the calendar year Piazza Affari sold 16% of its capitalization (and the spread rose by 91 points), only a handful of shares managed to gain value compared to the last session of 2017: among these, the best is precisely that of one of the world leaders in the spirits sector, with a portfolio of over 50 brands, which earned 14,38% (now worth around 7,38 euros), better than Poste (+10,9%) and Moncler (10,3%) and net of the superior performances of Juventus and Amplifon, which however only include the last December 27th.

In the last year, Campari, the historic icon of the Italian lifestyle, has also changed its corporate structure, becoming, so to speak, a little less made in Italy (although the main production site is still in Italy, in Sesto San Giovanni): control of the company has in fact moved to Luxembourg, after the Garavoglia family reduced the holding chain in October through the merger of the Italian Alicros into the Lagfin safe, domiciled in the Grand Duchy. The rally on the stock market also came thanks to the accounts for the first nine months: if it is true that sales were down (-2,5% on an annual basis, mainly due to the unfavorable exchange rate effect), Investors seem to have liked the gross profit figure instead, which stood at 249 million, an increase of 4,7%.

Campari, founded in 1860, owns a galaxy of brands in the Beverage sector: in its portfolio there are, among others, Aperol, Appleton Estate, Campari, SKYY, Wild Turkey and Grand Marnier. The company is the sixth largest in the branded spirits industry, distributes products in 190 countries worldwide, with leading positions in Europe and the Americas, has 18 manufacturing plants worldwide and employs approximately 4.000 people.
