Dieselgate sinks Volkswagen: accounts in the red for the first time in 15 years

Il Dieselgate sink the accounts of Volkswagen. The Wolfsburg giant, in fact, announced the first quarterly loss in five years: the third quarter of 2015 of the automotive group closed with an operating loss of 3,5 billion euros compared to the profit of 3,2 billion of the same period of 2014. IThe net result for the quarter, on the other hand, was negative by 1,67 billion against the profit of 2,97 in 2014.

Obviously, it weighs on the result the extraordinary charge of 6,7 billion euros to meet the costs of the scandal of rigged software to circumvent emissions tests. In fact, net of extraordinary charges, the profit would be in line with that of the third quarter of 2014 and, indeed, the turnover also recorded a growth of 5,3% to 51,5 billion euro (+5,3 % compared to the 2014 figure).

In the first nine months of 2015 Volkswagen recorded a turnover up 85% to 160,2 billion. They plunge in operating profit, -65%, and net profit, more than halved on an annual basis. The company is not yet able, according to the statement released today, to "assess the legal risks of the scandal".

Despite the negative numbers, the quarterly of Volkswagen was well received on the stock exchange, where the car group's stock gained more than 3% in the morning. The company's result, in fact, was better than analysts had anticipated.
