The collapse of Mps and Popolari sinks Piazza Affari

Monte dei Paschi plunges with a loss of 6,4% – Bpm, Bper, Banco Popolare and Unipol are also in deep red – Milan is the worst stock exchange in Europe (-1,17%) – Countercurrent Stm, Prysmian, Fineco and Recordati – Petrobras effect on Saipem.

The pressure on the banks knocked out Piazza Affari which closed down by 1,17%, the only one of the main European stock exchanges to end the session in decidedly negative territory. In fact, Paris, also with a minus sign, slipped by a fractional -0,13% while London rose by 0,25% and Frankfurt by 0,19%. Wall Street is also in positive territory where the Dow Jones rises by 0,26% and the S&P500 +0,18%. Tokyo -0,2% The markets are awaiting interest rate decisions from both the Fed (whose meeting starts today and ends tomorrow) and the Bank of Japan (meets tomorrow). And, albeit cautiously, they hope for “patient” central bankers. The data released today on construction confirmed the hopes. In the US, new construction sites in August fell by 5,8%, below estimates, as did building permits, which fell by 0,4%.

Oil closes slightly, after a day of sales and a recovery towards the end: Brent is at 45,91% dollars a barrel (-0,09%) and Wti at 44,01 dollars a barrel (+0,34 %). The euro drops to 1,116 dollars (yesterday at 1,1186 dollars). The Btp-Bund spread narrows by 1,77% to 127 basis points and a yield of 1,26%.

Landslide Mps -6,4% to 0,1872: it is the first time that the share has broken the support at 0,20 euro downwards with the capitalization now below 550 million. of Euro. What weighs heavily is the fact that the approval of the new industrial plan should undergo a postponement, compared to the end of the month date set by the previous managing director, Fabrizio Viola. At the bottom of the Ftse Mib other banks: Bpm -5,89%, Banco Popolare -4,54%, Bper -4,27%. It ends in negative territory, losing ground after a robust start to the upside, including Unicredit which slips by 0,88%. The propellant for the morning ascent had come from a Mediobanca report which promoted the stock from neutral to Outperform (target 4,4 euros).

Outside the main list, La Doria collapses (-10,36%) after the half-yearly accounts fall and the cut in the guidance. Stm +1,43%, Prysmian +1,32%, Recordati +0,26% move against the current, better than the Ftse Mib thanks to the good estimates provided by Bayer after the maxi acquisition of Monsanto.
