Commissioner Barnier (EU): "Eurobonds are possible"

"Eurobonds will be possible", when the 17 countries that share the single currency "trust each other". This was stated this morning in Paris by Michel Barnier, EU Commissioner for the Internal Market. “There are reasons enough to share the debt and invest in promising sectors,” added the EU technician. Eurobonds could serve to improve fiscal discipline and stimulate growth, actions that Barnier says should go hand in hand.

Europe “is going through difficult and demanding times”, but the European Commissioner is optimistic because “the right decisions have been taken. As far as Greece is concerned, Bernier affirmed that "it is in the interest of the Greek people to remain in the Eurozone". Greece's situation "would be infinitely more serious and more difficult if it were alone," concluded Barnier.
