Climate change takes center stage at Maxxi in Rome. The photos of seven artists on a country at risk

The lens of a camera can perfectly capture what is happening as a result of climate change. 7 photographers from the Contrasto Agency exhibit at MAXXI of Rome works on the state of the Italian climate crisis. The country is among the most critical in Europe. It is at risk for many causes and improvement actions are slow. There is a willingness to progress and reduce emissions, but the complications - above all political and bureaucratic - are always there, present. Climate-altering phenomena are widespread and insistent. The exhibition "Climate Change Italy. Seven photographers tell Italy about the climate that is changing" until January 8, it goes through the main environmental impacts on people and things, to then present possible solutions. Climate Change Italy is a project of Green&Blue e Contrast and has Enel as a partner.

Climate change does not exclude any sector

Considering that the environmental battle involves more and more artists, sportsmen, testimonials, managers, Ilaria Magliocchetti Lombi he made the portraits of these characters. From the territory, the main object of the exhibition, Sicily stands out with the work of Massimo Siragusa on forest fires, dry lakes and environmentally depressed areas. The North and its mountains are the theme addressed by Francesco Anselmi who observed retreating glaciers, polluted PO, and general dwindling water resources. The shots of Valeria Scrilatti they tell the work of those engaged in research and monitoring projects for the conservation of the species. Plants and animals subjected to ever greater pressure, compromised agriculture, wild urbanization. The theme chosen by Lorenzo Maccotta instead, they are energy technologies, plants and laboratories where the energy revolution is studied. Mattia Balsamini went to green economy companies where the reduction and reintegration of processing waste into the production cycle is tackled. In the end, Mattia Zoppellaro has chosen communities fighting for the self-production of renewable energy.

The mirror of a country that needs to do more

The photographs are set up by marrying the causes and philosophy of the project created by the Cime company, which uses cardboard from recycled paper as the main material. But all together, in a couple of hours of visit, they offer a cross-section of a country on its way towards renewable sources and system restructuringmto cheap. Nothing more complex - for climate change - than to lead citizens and institutions not to close their eyes faced with obvious disasters and the aggression of the territory. And yet it is possible to do it in Italy synthesis of projects and web platforms. The works on the circular economy, for example, are enlightening because they make us understand how that system would free Italy from today's heavy environmental deficits. The seven artists interpreted a very delicate status quo which refers to civil responsibilities and policies that care little about the landscape and health. Despite this, we continue to repeat the bombastic slogan: Italy, the most beautiful country in the world.
