They proceed with caution, but convinced that they have taken the right path: the medium-sized industries of the South continue to invest in renewables. In the photovoltaic sector, in particular, the Anie of Confindustria recorded a 30% growth in installed power compared to 2018. 2020 had started just as well, but the coronavirus epidemic crisis slowed everything down and postponed many projects over time . However, agribusiness and food companies remain in the first places to show the markets their best synthesis between processing system and final product with low environmental impact.

In Campania, however, Trucillo coffee has not stopped. This year it celebrates 70 years of activity, inaugurating a new photovoltaic system in the modern factory on the outskirts of Salerno. What product can be greener than our coffee they say in the company, crunching the data on exports in 40 countries. Thanks to the partnership with Enel X, the mixtures are produced by an impact made up of 350 photovoltaic panels which generate 134.000 kWh in a year. Roasting coffee allows the company to save resources, but above all to reduce CO2 emissions. This is no small feat, neither for the Salerno area nor for the air quality in Campania. The technicians have calculated a reduction in atmospheres of 100.000 kg in one year. They operate a complex system that captures the sun and is controlled remotely.

Matteo Trucillo, managing director of the Spa, today says: “Our company was born at home, in the cellar facing the sea where my father Cesare, in the midst of the economic boom, began to roast and package coffee. An advantage of small companies, especially family ones, is the speed of response and action in the changing market. We want to continue to grow abroad and the investment in the new plant responds to this objective”. The new investments have been conceived on the basis of the needs of consumers who are increasingly sensitive to environmentally friendly products and companies. Coffee remains a widely consumed drink all over the world and a low environmental impact roasting, made known to consumers, can make the difference. Investments and economic aid are needed, especially when you don't have a history of more than ten years behind you.
