Ikea founder Kamprad dies at 91

Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad has died at the age of 91, the same group said on its website. Despite his economic position, which made him one of the richest men on the planet, Kamprad has always led a frugal existence. He dressed modestly, drove a fifteen-year-old Volvo and shopped at the market in the afternoon, when usually the prices are lower in the morning and flew in 'low cost'.

The founder of the furniture empire lived in Switzerland with his wife Margaretha. Died at the age of ninety-one, always struggling with alcoholism, Nazi sympathizer in his youth, Kamprad had founded Ikea in Sweden in 1943 when he was still a boy.

He chose the name by adding to his initials (IK) the first letters of the family farm where he grew up (Elmtaryd) and his native town (Agunnaryd). After making Ikea a global giant of functional and modular furniture, a few years ago Ingvar Kamprad left control of the hyperbolically expanding multinational to his three sons (44-year-old Peter, 41-year-old Jonas and 39-year-old Matthias) he retired to Switzerland where he bought a modest bungalow and furnished it with the same cheap things sold in his shops (assembled by himself).
