Green hydrogen, the Hera-Snam project in Modena gets 19,5 million from the Emilia-Romagna Region

Green hydrogen, the Hera-Snam project in Modena gets 19,5 million from the Emilia-Romagna Region

The "IdrogeMo" project by Ivy e Snam for the construction of a pole for the production of green hydrogen in the municipality of Modena it obtained 19,5 million euros in funding from Emilia-Romagna, allocated as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The construction of this pole – as prescribed by the tender – will take place in an abandoned industrial area, the exhausted landfill in via Caruso in Modena, without any consumption of useful land. Overall, the planned investment for these activities amounts to 20,8 million euros.

In detail, explains a joint note, the area will host a photovoltaic park of 6 Mw of power connected to an electrolyser which, thanks to the use of the electricity supplied by the photovoltaic field, will produce up to 400 tons of hydrogen per year. In order to be able to power the electrolyser even at night, the pole will be completed by a battery for the storage of electricity.

In the construction of the production hub, the two companies will have a distinct but interconnected role: Hera is the lead partner, Herambiente will take care of the construction of the photovoltaic plant, and Snam will be responsible for the construction of the hydrogen production plant.

The comments of Hera and Snam

“This first but important step in the development of the green hydrogen supply chain – stated the managing director of Hera Horace Iacono – sees our group laying the foundations to become a primary operator in the sector and demonstrates our commitment to accompanying companies and communities in their energy transition path, generating positive effects for the environment, economy and territory".

"IdrogeMo is for Snam the first Hydrogen Valley project dedicated to industrial applications and transport - declared the managing director of Stefano Venier – which represent one of the main objectives of the EU in terms of energy transition”.
