Hydrogen and new sources: Pichetto Fratin announces investments. But the International Energy Agency is asking Europe to hurry

For the Minister of the Environment, the 2022 final balance is positive and focuses on hydrogen. The big knot of bureaucracy remains. The International Energy Agency calls for acceleration on clean sources.

Hydrogen and new sources: Pichetto Fratin announces investments. But the International Energy Agency is asking Europe to hurry

THEhydrogen it is fundamental for the Italian economy. The first decree of 3,2 billion for projects envisaged in the PNRR is about to arrive. The free energy in the air to be captured with cutting-edge tools and technologies will also be encouraged by the new government. The Minister of the Environment has expressed himself in this sense Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.

In general, all the resources envisaged in the Recovery Plan will be allocated within the established timescales. The Minister gave reassurances to the associated public enterprises in utilitalia who dedicated a conference to the energy crisis. Authorizations for new plants will be released during 2023. The 2022 budget closes with 7,1 gigawats authorized by the Via-Vas Commission. But there could also be something else, because the Commission has scheduled another 3 sessions by 31 December. For the benefit above all of the energy companies, details of the authorizations granted were provided, some of which refer to the period in which he was Minister Roberto Cingolani: 6 relate to agrivoltaics, 14 to photovoltaics, 31 to wind power and 3 to pumping.

The increase of renewables at risk of bureaucracy

“Soon there will be a decree to identify the Pnrr interventions on hydrogen“, said Pichetto Fratin where the Pnrr allocates 2,1 billion to improve waste management, 1,5 billion for new plants, 600 million for flagship circular economy projects. 2023 will therefore be a challenging year for infrastructures, so the data for 2022 essentially represent a transitional phase. In this regard, the Meloni government must also approve 200 million for green islands, 140 for green communities, 6 billion for new renewable sources, 4 billion for smart grids. A list of interventions necessary to proceed towards ambitious environmental and sustainable objectives and to which we must add another 2 billion for water infrastructure, 1 billion to repair leaks, 600 million for sewage and purification. But the obstacles to the good spending of these resources come from complexity of authorizations and responsibilities.

For the IEA in 2023 gas deficit in Europe

A situation that reverses on the citizens which, while aspiring to low environmental impact energy services, have suffered from indiscriminate increases in the prices of electricity and gas. It is evident that the release of authorizations and speed of procedures has become a central point.

Unfortunately, there are no positive signals from the government yet. He was the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio to remember that Italy continues to have one normative production ten times higher than the European average. The value of this jungle of laws, regulations and powers can be found in the slowness with which many medium-sized energy companies undertake new investments.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) says that in 2023 there will be a worsening of gas supplies to Europe. Italy too is urged to hurry up and in this context research on the use of hydrogen is re-emerging. But after a year of price storms, Italy's regulatory average has become truly unsustainable.
