Ice, R. Monti: too many cuts in funds

The new president of the Institute for Foreign Trade launches an appeal in the Senate committee: "We are able to support every initiative that companies and public administrations wish to take abroad", but "the sharp contraction of available funds risks to limit the development of the numerous initiatives put in place".

An appeal to the institutions: ICE is able to support any initiative abroad, but the cuts in financial resources represent "a substantial limitation". This was underlined by the new president of the agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies, Riccardo Monti, heard by the Senate Industry Commission.

The body has the task of coordinating all the internationalization strategies and tools of the country system, so as to effectively support the export and growth abroad of Italian companies. Not only that: the ICE also focuses on attracting foreign direct investment. A mission reaffirmed by Monti: the new Agency is "strongly oriented towards creating synergies between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economic Development and Tourism, with companies that refer to Confindustria and Unioncamere, in particular as regards the sectors strong competitiveness”.

Great openness also to the requests of the trade associations and rigor on the expenditure front will be the other characteristics of a structure that nevertheless wants to demonstrate its own efficiency.

The occasion was used by Monti to address to the institutions "an appeal so that the signal can be passed on that the ICE structure is able to support any initiative that not only businesses, but also public administrations wish to bring abroad". But – he adds – “compared to this approach, the sharp contraction of the funds available to ICE, combined with the difficulty of starting up the new agency, risk representing a substantial limitation to the development of the numerous initiatives being planned”.
