Iberdola shows a 3,5% growth in net income thanks to the reduction in operating costs

The Spanish utility benefited from growing electricity demand from the United States (+1,5%) and Brazil (+3,3%). Despite the negative situation, the EBITDA stood at 5,6 billion (+0,4%) and the turnover, in the nine months, reached 23,4 billion euros, marking an increase of 1,7% .

The Spanish utility Iberdrola, in the first nine months of 2011, achieved a consolidated net profit of 2,1 billion, showing an increase of 3,5% compared to the same period of 2010. This growth was made possible by a reduction operating costs due to a decrease in the number of employees of 1,2% and a growing demand for electricity from the United States (+1,5%) and from Brazil (+3,3%). In Spain, on the other hand, demand fell by 1%.

Despite the negative situation, underlines the Spanish group, the ebitda stood at 5,6 billion (+0,4%) and the turnover totaled 23,4 billion euros in the nine months, marking an increase of 1,7%. However, in the quarter the net profit alone showed a drop of 4% to 579,3 million euro.

The data comes two days after Iberdrola, through its subsidiary Servicios Energeticos, signed an agreement with Mmc Automoviles Espana to implement the use of electricity in the Iberian Peninsula. The agreement provides for the cross-collaboration of products and services of the two companies. Thus, Iberdrola is committed to directing its customers towards the choice of Mitsubishi vehicles, while the automaker will do the same with the Iberdrola Movilidad Verde initiative, an integrated commercial solution involving the electric vehicle, the installation of recharge, financing and supply of Green Energy, 100% renewable.
