Young people found 300 businesses a day

Despite the crisis of recent years, 300 businesses led by young people are born every day in Italy. The data emerged in the Assembly of the presidents of the Italian Chambers of Commerce underway in Rieti.

In the first 35 months of 9, the under 2016s created around 90 businesses (31% of the total of new businesses born in Italy) while almost 40 closed their doors in the same period, with a balance therefore growing by around 50 units .

This is a higher number than the balance of the total number of businesses created in Italy in the first 9 months of the year (which had been +42) and a truly substantial number, albeit slightly lower than in previous years.

The photograph taken by Unioncamere-Infocamere in the Movimprese survey signals the strong contribution made in many regions of the South by those born after 1981: in Basilicata, Calabria and Molise, the registrations of new businesses by the under 35s exceed 38 % of total enrollments in the first 9 months of the year; in Campania they represent 37,5%, in Sicily 36,8% and in Sardinia 33,6%.

In Italy there are around 600 youth enterprises (10% of the total enterprises) and they are mostly concentrated in traditional sectors. The new young 'captains of enterprises' instead seem to focus heavily on sectors with high added value.

Among the traditional sectors, in fact, we highlight Commerce with 29% of under 35 companies registered at the end of September, Construction (14%) and Accommodation and catering services (10%). Among those with high added value, Telecommunications stand out, in which more than half of the companies founded in the first nine months of 2016 are due to young people. In financial services, new entrepreneurs under 35 are almost half of the total and in entrepreneurial activities related to cinema, video, TV programs and musical recordings, the registrations of young companies exceed 40% of the total.

“The initiative of our young people keeps the dynamics of the birth-death rate of companies positive”, underlined the president of Unioncamere, Ivan Lo Bello, during his speech at the Assembly of Presidents underway in Rieti. “In these 6 very difficult years for our country, we have seen this encouraging figure which must be supported. We need to focus on innovation, digital, administrative simplification and bring school closer to business. All things on which the chamber system will continue to work in the next few years”.
