Huawei brings contactless payments to Italy: we start with Intesa Sanpaolo cards

Arriving Huawei Pay for all Chinese company users. On the occasion of the Mobile World Congress 2022 in Barcelona, Huawei announced the expansion of the Huawei Mobile Services ecosystem in Italy that thanks to the partnership with Intesa Sanpaolo and Bancomat it will be possible to use your smartphone to make contactless payments in stores. Born as an alternative to Google Pay, in light of the latest vicissitudes between Huawei and the US government, the service is finally ready to land in Europe, starting from Italy.

Thanks to the Bancomat Pay app in January 2021 and Intesa Sanpaolo Mobile in June of the same year, with Huawei Pay, Intesa customers will have a further possibility to pay in-store in contactless mode on all POS enabled on the PagoBANCOMAT circuit using the own smartphone.

To use Huawei Pay you will need to have a Huawei device that supports NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and be the holder of a card issued by Intesa Sanpaolo on the PagoBANCOMAT circuit. Intesa Sanpaolo will therefore be the first bank in Italy and in Europe to make this service available to its customers.

The arrival of Huawei Pay is part of the banking and financial app implementation strategy of Huawei appGallery, Huawei's proprietary digital app store and the heart of Huawei Mobile Services, ranked third among the best known and most popular app distribution platforms available today. “Present in 170 countries, it is supported by 5,4 million developers and partners working to deliver an innovative, self-contained app ecosystem designed to be within the reach of people around the world. The main challenge underlying the Huawei ecosystem in recent months has been to constantly update the offer of different types of apps with particular attention to banking apps to improve their content and management".
