Huawei: "In two years we will surpass Samsung"

The Chinese giant is investing tens of billions around the world to react to US tariffs. And if Trump raises tariffs on August 10, he already knows how to defend himself. Here are his moves on investments, patents and agreements

Huawei: "In two years we will surpass Samsung"

Billions of investments galore, dozens, promised or already given in Asia, Africa, North America and Europe (most recently in Italy) to maintain relations with customers, institutions and governments. Huawei launched an attack on the ban declared by Trump on May 15 with a flurry of investment announcements and presentations of new products, anticipating the launch of new systems and the new fully 20G Mate5X smartphone. increasing the already rich portfolio of patents (5.400 in 2018 alone , double that of Intel and Qualcomm) and profits (operating profit up +10,2%, +30%, net profit $8,6 billion +25,1%). Other than underground and diplomatic negotiations with Trump's emissaries to seek an agreement.

In 2 years we will surpass Samsung”

The Chinese giant, which in 2018 surpassed Apple, doubling the number of smartphones sold by the big American worldwide, placing itself with 200 million devices in second place under the leader, Samsung, has in fact launched an aggressive strategy of investments, agreements and collaborations with research centres, institutions, governments and private companies all over the world. And then here are hard and clear statements: nothing will change, no problem for our smartphpnes. Immediately after May 15, when Trump ordered the world's big names to stop supplying software and hardware for Huawei smartphones, the orders were dropped sharply by 30 percent after that in the first three months of 2019, sales had had brilliant growth in every continent, so much so that, from the headquarters, the indiscretion about the next bang had filtered in at the beginning of 2019: “ in 2 years -a top executive had told Gartner's Anshuk Gupta- we will take the primacy away from Samsung . In 2 years, no more”.

All as before, no fear of Trump

And after the presentations of the new Mate20X 5G in Europe and Asia, also in Italy, in Milan, in mid-July, the jewel has arrived in stores but as has already happened in France, Belgium, England, Germany, Canada and other countries, the real purpose of the presentations was another and that is to say that, despite Trump's war, Android with patches and releases will continue to work on Huawei smartphones, as well as all Google applications and services and this for both current and future devices . And obviously, given that Trump is backing down from his tirades, also in this case the date of the ultimatum (“Everyone leave Huawei, it is America's enemy, it spies on us”), August 10, will pass – as declared the Chinese summit several times - without any interruption of the supply relationships of American companies. And, we note, there are and there will be very efficient channels to continue these exchanges.

But what is important to finally know are three guidelines, decided in China by the party, the government and the Huawei summit:

1-Everything will continue as before, otherwise it will be the American, Japanese and European partners who will be damaged. It's a warning and a threat. If Trump decides to boycott Huawei on August 10, the leaders of the Chinese giant have already announced that they will a thousand employees of their company present in the USA. And since Huawei is the world leader in the development of 5G, without Huawei theEurope would be delayed by 18 months in the transition to the fifth generation of telecommunications with an additional expenditure of 55 billion euros for technological adaptation.

2-Tens of billions invested worldwide- The enthusiastic announcements of the Italian newspapers about the alleged investments of 1,9 billion dollars (2,75 billion euros) perhaps should have been less "focused" because they are primarily based on a tit for tat blatant (….) and then why are they based on material purchases, lots of publicity on 5G and very little on R&D.

3-Here is where Huawei invests- in exchange of course for the maintenance of the situation without any boycott. With one difference compared to Italy: elsewhere they are important research, logistics and finance centres. To begin with, 15 mega showrooms will be opened in 9 European countries. In France 1,5 billion dollars have already been spent on 4 R&D centres, one of which is very important in Sophia Antipolis (Nice) and is operational. In Switzerland, country that has already declared that it does not want to interrupt the collaboration on 5G with Huawei at all, an R&D center will soon open on nanotechnology, materials science, computer science and physics. In England a finance competence center is in operation. In Poland an initial investment of 700 million euros is now starting. In South Africa in Johannesburg work has begun on a colossal logistics center to halve the delivery times of plants and products for African countries. THEin Africa Huawei holds 10 percent of the market and is growing by double digits. in canada, that is, in the country where the daughter of the president of Huawei was arrested, several million dollars have been invested and will be invested in research and development centres, one of which in Québec is already operational but almost semi-secret. “The second R&D center will be -as stated by a Huawei spokesperson- the next Silicon Valley”.

And in the meantime, as a "pledge" of what the president of Huawei and president Xi Jinping have promised, here is the first important news: the official and most widespread TV in the PRC will broadcast over a hundred episodes on the beauties of Italy, explicitly inviting you to come and invest.
