HP: Meg Whitman appointed CEO, replaces Leo Apotheker

New change at the top for Hewlett-Packard. The US IT company has appointed Meg Whitman, former number one of EBay, as its new CEO. She takes over from Leo Apotheker, who was fired after just under 11 months at the helm of the company.

In the past two years, HP has fired two CEOs due to the failed strategic relaunch with which it expected to regain market confidence. Under Apotheker's management, the group lost 47% of its profits, while its predecessor Mark Hurd was forced to step down due to a sex scandal.

Meg Whitman, 55, has worked for companies including Walt Disney, DreamWorks, Procter & Gamble and Hesbro. However, the ten years (1998-2008) spent at eBay, where she held the position of president and CEO, made her one of the most successful managers in her panorama.
