Does Hollande tax high incomes? The French run away and buy a house in New York

In the aftermath of the socialist leader's victory in the presidential elections, requests for the purchase of houses and apartments by transalpine citizens in the Big Apple have at least tripled: "Better to take fortunes away from Paris and invest in US real estate" – Boom for the hotel-residence Trump Soho: one million dollars for 44 mXNUMX.

Does Hollande tax high incomes? The French run away and buy a house in New York

Do you want to tax my fortunes? And I'm going to secure them in New York. And I buy a house. Maybe in one of the luxury buildings owned by Donald Trump. And maybe even with a terrace and a suggestive view of the heart of Manhattan.

According to Benoît Pous-Bertran de Balanda, son of the French general François Bertran de Palmarolle (engaged in these parts during the American revolution), and head of luxury real estate company Black Tulip Capital, this must be the thought of many transalpine citizens of the wealthiest range.

The day after François Hollande's victory in the French presidential elections, Pous-Bertran's phone started ringing like crazy: all calls with the prefix +33, i.e. coming from the other side of the ocean, from the country of origin of father. That France with which the real estate agent usually works, but never had done with this intensity: “In these times of uncertainty, many are thinking of bringing their fortunes here to the United States. At least for the next five years,” he tells Le Figaro. Just long enough for the Elysium to change tenants, given that during the electoral campaign, the socialist Hollande has repeatedly expressed his intention to tax incomes exceeding one million euros at 75%.

While waiting for better times, therefore, it is better for the rich French to look to the Big Apple: for Trump Soho alone, a 46-storey skyscraper-residence owned by the American billionaire, there are already around thirty requests. “There are still good opportunities here in New York,” explains Pous-Bertran, who will travel to France at the end of June to present the various offers to investors.

In Trump Soho, prices start at a million dollars for a 44-square-metre studio, up to 7 million for a 167-square-metre three-room apartment. The formula is also particularly convenient for those who, like the French customers, do not intend to live all year round in the USA: it is a hotel-residence, habitable for 120 days a year by the owner, for the remaining period rented as hotel room with the takings (from 400 to 12.500 dollars a night) that go back to the owner and are used in part for maintenance.

So it's New York the new Eldorado of the French "fleeing" from Hollande: “As soon as the polls gave him the winner – confirms Thomas Guss of New York Résidence – the requests for apartment purchases have at least tripled”.
