Hollande: "The enemy is fanaticism"

“We know the enemy: it is hatred, fanaticism, obscurantism. We will defeat this enemy together with our own strength with the weapon of democracy and law”. “We will fight Isis without mercy”. These are the words pronounced by the French president, François Hollande, during the celebration which was held this morning in Paris in memory of the 130 victims of the attacks of 13 November.

“France was struck by a cowardly act of war in the name of a betrayed God – continued the number one of the Elysée -. Today the whole nation strives to live for the victims: 130 names, 130 lives taken, 130 destinies swept away. These women and men, the youth of France, were shot down because they represented France and freedom." “They have a cult of death – the president then said, again referring to terrorists -. They have the cult of death, but we, we have the love of life. We will continue to love music, we will multiply the songs, concerts and shows".

Hollande then addressed the families of the victims directly: “I solemnly promise you – he said – that France will do everything possible to protect its children and that France will remain itself. We can count on our military and our policemen, on Parliament, on the law, but above all on every Frenchman to show vigilance, resolution, humanity, dignity. We will take this fight to the end and we will win. We will not change and we will be united on the essentials”.
