"The reasons can be found in the election calendars." This is the answer that Hollande gave to journalists who questioned him, before the Brussels summit, about the recent differences that emerged on European policy between France and Germany, "we come out of the presidential elections while Merkel has her appointments in September 2013".
Divergences that find their roots in different pressure, therefore, and the need to meet the desires and impulses of one's own electorate, a need which, however, according to Hollande, must not make us forget that France and Germany "have a common responsibility: to get the Eurozone out of the crisis".
An objective that can be pursued, according to Jollande, provided that the decisions of the past few months are respected: "Today we must continue with the banking union". On relations with Merkel he then closed by adding that "there is a solid partnership between France and Germany, but we discuss with all the countries with which good compromises can be reached, such as Italy".
