Hera wins the Fire award for energy efficiency

The Bolognese multiutility Hera has been recognized among the Italian companies most capable of promoting the rational use of energy. This was decided by the highest national body in the sector: the FIRE (Italian Federation for the Rational Use of Energy), which for three years now has established the FIRE – Energy Manager Award. The Hera Group took part in it for the first time and immediately climbed onto the podium, thus obtaining important recognition, on an equal footing with two other Italian companiesactive in the civil and tertiary sectors.

The delivery of the prize took place in Milan, within Enermanagement XII, a conference dedicated to energy management, resource management and the core business, at the end of a round table which was also attended by experts from the Hera Group.

The prize awarded to the Hera Group recognizes the attention and commitment that the company has always paid to the efficient use of energy in all its activities, starting with the overall objective of reduction of its energy consumption by 5% by 2020, with a saving of over 8 million euros compared to energy expenditure in 2013.

The results are made possible by integrated efficiency programs carried out continuously by the Hera Group in its plants and offices. Among the numerous actions taken, the multi-utility has implemented an ISO 50001 certified Energy Management System throughout the organization with the aim of pursuing the continuous improvement of its energy performance. The unitary framework of the ISO 50001 Management System has made the actions carried out within the Group more effective, directing choices and investments towards the achievement of the company's energy saving objectives. The result is a coherent and strengthened action, aimed at continuous improvement and rational use of resources.

Furthermore, the multiutility draws up periodic energy diagnoses relating to its business, even if not provided for by regulatory obligations, and has activated an energy monitoring system of the most significant consumption centres.

The numerous efficiency initiatives conducted by the various corporate structures in recent years, such as the revamping of cogeneration plants, participation in the dispatching market in aggregate form, the provision of building automation systems and efficient lighting in the offices.
