Hera invests in water and the environment in Rimini

Tommasi's multi-utility invests 80 million for the Rimini water network and plans other interventions in Riccione with important effects for bathing and environmental protection on the Romagna Riviera

Hera invests in water and the environment in Rimini

The Italian water industry is heading towards a new Renaissance headlined this newspaper a few days ago. And now one of the largest Italian companies is stepping forward. Hera has included 2021 million euros for the Rimini water network in its 80 business plan. 15,2 will be invested already this year. Followed by 67 million for networks, sewers, purification and 12,7 million absorbed by the environment.

In the company of Tomaso Tommasi di Vignano and Stefano Venier, interventions in favor of bathing could not be missing, given that the most ambitious Italian project for the protection of marine waters is underway in Rimini. The holiday capital had reached its limit and a national effort has allowed it to emerge from a worrying unfortunate environmental decline. On balance, more than something is moving among the giants of integrated network services.

The millions of tourists on the Riviera will benefit from a structural intervention worth over 150 million euros, in which Hera is investing 43 million of its own. The implementation team also includes the Municipality of Rimini, Romagna Acque and the Province of Rimini water company. Economic and environmental repercussions? 1,5 million euros, technicians and planners say, as all discharges into the sea will gradually be eliminated.

Optimism infects tour operators most of all, who want to leave the bad memories of an unwelcoming (?) coast for the sea in the past. In reality, we have already been working for five years with technologically enhanced purification plants, at the forefront of water treatment. The conceived system is circular, it connects to works on the beaches and to five new ecological islands costing about 4 million euros.

The good news also goes beyond the borders of Rimini to extend to nearby Riccione with other interventions participated by Hera for the water purification system. The bathability of the waters is the responsibility of institutional subjects, but the mayors who accepted the company's industrial plan shared the choices. It is difficult to imagine the opposite, when the Company expects profits to grow by 5% per year to 2021 and investments in such diversified and strategic sectors.
