Hera: since 2017 has only used renewable energy

The multi-utility aligns itself with the best practices of important international groups and, as per EU objectives and the UN agenda, guarantees that from this year all the activities managed in Emilia Romagna will be powered 100% by clean electricity.

The Hera group assures that from this year it will only use energy from renewable sources for all activities in the Emilia-Romagna region. The initiative anticipates and goes beyond the guidelines set by the National Energy Strategy, by Brussels with the "Climate-Energy Package" and by the UN with the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

Plants, vehicles, technologies, processes: the set of activities managed by Hera in Emilia Romagna in the management of environmental services, energy and water, determines an overall annual consumption of energy equal to 325 GWh. Thanks to the use of clean energy alone, it will be possible to avoid the emission of 144 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere each year, which would instead be produced from fossil fuels.

Some equivalences can help to give a more intuitive idea of the environmental benefits deriving from the achievement of this result. To absorb 144 thousand tons of CO2, for example, a forest of 240 square kilometers would take about a year. Furthermore, 325 GWh correspond to the annual consumption of over 120.000 families and to the energy needed to fly the air route between Milan and New York 1.174 times or to power the annual journeys - calculated on average at 21 km - of over 60 cars diesel.

As part of the services provided by the Group, the sector most affected by the achievement of this ambitious goal is that of the water cycle, which accounts for 90% of consumption, and of which maximum sustainability is guaranteed in this way.
