Hera and Gruppo Martini: agreement for the construction of a new energy pole in Longiano in Romagna

The new energy hub, which will come on stream in 2024, will be built by Hera Servizi Energia in the industrial area of Longiano and will energetically interconnect two plants of the Martini Group

Hera and Gruppo Martini: agreement for the construction of a new energy pole in Longiano in Romagna

In the industrial area of the territory of longiano will be made a new pole which will unite (from an energy point of view) two production plants "Martini" and "CAFAR", with important economic and environmental benefits. An innovative project that will be implemented by Hera Energy Services (HSE), the energy service company of the Hera Group, for the Martini group, a reality active in the food and zootechnical sector. The agreement signed by the two companies has a duration of 13 years.

From a plant engineering point of view, a note explains, the project for the energy pole envisages doubling the cogeneration technologyi.e. the combined production of electricity and heat. A new cogeneration plant with a nominal electrical power of 730 kWe will be installed in parallel with the existing plant, capable of optimizing the coverage of the electrical and thermal needs (especially in the form of steam) required by the company's production process.

Inside the CAFAR planton the other hand, a new latest generation trigeneration plant will be built with a nominal electrical power of 999 kW of electricity capable of satisfying the electricity demand of the plant for approximately 90% of its needs and of recovering heat in the form of hot water to supply a new refrigeration system and for other internal uses of the plant. A long bidirectional thermal ring will interconnect the co/trigeneration plants of the two plants owned by the Martini Group, transferring hot water to both based on thermal requests in order to optimize recovery and not disperse useful heat into the atmosphere.

The benefits of the new pole

It is an initiative with benefits in terms environmental but also of containment of Costs corporate energy. Thanks to the creation of the thermal loop, the note continues, a significant general energy efficiency improvement of the plant will be achieved, guaranteeing maximum coverage of the energy needs of the two plants through high-yield cogeneration technology. Overall, the energy pole will lead to a reduction in primary energy consumption of 24% with an overall efficiency, in terms of energy conversion, of 85%. Thanks to the initiative, an annual consumption of around 680 tonnes of oil equivalent will be avoided the issue di 1.600 tons of CO2.

The green evolution of the Martini Group: 260 hectares of forest saved every year

HSE will take care of the construction, management and maintenance of the energy pole. The management of the system follows logics of optimization and efficiency, with the aid of a remote management system e remote control, active 24 hours a day, and of first aid to ensure complete continuity of service.

"In our company, the issues of attention to the environment and sustainable development have never been "slogans" but have always been part of our way of doing and being a business, they are central concepts, fixed points in our strategic vision of the future and always with growing importance on all production sites” he commented Emanuel Costa, Technical Director of the Martini Group.

Energy efficiency, cornerstone of the circular economy for Hera

THEenergy efficiency is one of the cornerstones on which the model is based The circular economy of the Hera Group, underlines the note.

“This intervention, within the Martini Group, is part of a broader strategic framework, aimed at making productivity more efficient and reducing and optimizing energy consumption in its plants. An orientation perfectly in accordance with the historic vocation of the Hera Group, which has always been attentive to the issues of energy transition and to developing its businesses in harmony with the ambitious path traced by the UN Agenda to 2030 - he stated George Golinelli, Chief Executive Officer of Hera Servizi Energia -. We are very satisfied with this agreement with the Martini Group with which we have already been implementing for years a set of energy interventions aimed at reducing the environmental impact in the area”.
