Hera-Amga, the merger at the finish line

In the next few hours, the boards of directors of the Bolognese multiutility Hera and the Friulian one Amga will give the final go-ahead for the merger between the two groups which will represent one of the major realities present in Italy in the field of local utilities with very strong roots in energy. in water and waste services.

The definitive go-ahead from the board of directors of the Friulian multiutility Amga is expected tomorrow for the presentation of the project which envisages the merger with Hera and which will be operational between May and June. In the next few hours it will also be the turn of Hera's board of directors

The operation starts from the "merger between Acegas-Aps and Amga, with registered office in Trieste, the company will be controlled by the Hera group, but with territorial roots in Friuli-Venezia Giulia", clarifies a Friulian political source. The municipality of Udine will be assigned a share of the new Hera of around 2,5% of the capital.
The agreement signed by Hera and the municipality of Udine dates back to 5 September.

The reasons for the aggregation of the Friulian multi-utility with a bigger company such as the Bolognese Hera are mainly, even if not only, the tenders for the acquisition of the management of gas distribution in 2015. Hera has strengthened itself in the Triveneto area after the merger with Acegas- Aps, where Italgas is also present, especially in Pordenone. In case of failure to obtain the concessions, the risk would be that of losing 250 jobs.

The Hera-Amga merger will give life to one of the major Italian multi-utilities and marks the success of the strategy desired by the president of Hera, Tommaso Tommasi di Vignano, who has always been in favor of the policy of growth in small steps. But the agreement is also the confirmation that Hera intends to develop more and more in the North-East.
