Henderson Investors, Mourinho rejected as testimonial. Barclays: "It was a flop"

That it wasn't a golden moment for Josè Mourinho was understood first of all by the results on the field of his Real Madrid, very far from Barcelona in the Spanish league and one step away from elimination in the Champions League. Then, from the increasingly tense atmosphere with the locker room and in relations with the management, which according to some would lead to an early divorce with respect to the natural expiry of the contract in 2016.

The real news is instead that the Special One now creaks even as an image man, who has always proclaimed himself as an icon of success, in the sporting arena but not only. As for example in the case of the contract with the Anglo-Australian investment management company Henderson Global Investors, which starting from October 2011 and throughout 2012 chose to associate its image with that of the former Inter coach, author in 2010 of the "treble" with the Nerazzurri and winner of the Champions League twice on the benches of Porto and precisely Inter.

An initiative that would therefore have been a flop, as written by Investment Week, which reports the harsh criticism of the British bank Barclays, according to which “the expensive marketing campaign of 2012 (the one associated with Mourinho's image) seems to have had no particular effect on the increase in flows”. Analysts therefore considered that exploiting the image of a football manager, even that of one who is considered the best around, has not had a positive impact on the sales of the asset manager's products. Indeed, there is even talk of a -11% of equity flows in 2012.

On the part of Henderson - who did not want to reveal the amount of the investment made in Mourinho - there is still satisfaction (“the purpose of the campaign with José was to raise awareness of Henderson, and that has certainly occurred”), but the fact remains that the expensive campaign has always been the subject of observations and controversies. Already in 2011, in fact according to a survey by Ignites Europe, of more than 100 industry professionals, 64% believed Henderson's move was a "costly mistake."

It is not known how expensive it will be for Henderson, while for Real Madrid president Florentino Perez unfortunately yes: the Spanish press claims that in case of contract termination at the end of this season Mou will receive a severance pay of the beauty of 10 million euros. So much for the flop.
