Harvey kills: 35 dead in Texas

Harvey's Texas death toll has risen to at least 35. The tropical storm (no longer classified as a "hurricane") is now marching east toward Louisiana, still causing flooding and devastation.

In Harris County alone, in the Houston area, 17 people died, including an entire family of 6 people: four children and their great-grandparents found dead in a vehicle while trying to save themselves from the floods.

At least 3.500 instead would be the people rescued by the police. The official number of missing is not yet available but there is talk of "at least 1.000 people still trapped", according to estimates by the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott.

The flooded houses are 45.700. This was announced by the Texas Department of Public Safety, specifying that 17.000 homes suffered serious damage.

In these hours there is great concern for a chemical plant near Houston, which could explode due to the damage caused by the rains to the refrigeration plant.

“Much worse” than Katrina in 2015 and Sandy in 2012. This is how Governor Abbott described Harvey's reach.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has imposed a curfew from midnight to 24 a.m. in the fourth largest city in the United States to prevent looting in homes left empty following the devastating floods.
