HangarBicocca, a long night with “The Phonetic Orchestra”

The first appointment of the Public Program dedicated to Eva Kot'átková is a night live in the spaces of the exhibition "The Dream Machine is Asleep". The performance, lasting 8 hours, features the Australian group The Phonetic Orchestra, whose live music, in dialogue with the artist's works, will accompany the audience on a nocturnal journey between sleep and wakefulness.

The Czech artist's exhibition, which sees a gigantic bed at the center of the installation and is inhabited by works that refer to a surreal and dreamlike imagery, has as its main theme the relationship of dreams with our daily experience, society and its institutions. The Phonetic Orchestra has conceived a project that transforms the exhibition, for the duration of an entire night, into the scenario of a musical performance whose sound acts on the oneiric mechanisms of the spectators.

The Phonetic Orchestra was born in 2012 with the aim of exploring the relationship between the score and sound. The orchestra is composed of musicians from different musical fields including contemporary classical music, electroacoustic music and experimental improvisation, with the intention of studying the border area between improvisation and composition. The research that develops between these two fields is associated with the collaboration with musicians who come from Australian and European experimental artistic practices. The work of The Phonetic Orchestra includes several long-lasting projects, such as marathon concerts and sleeping concerts.

The Phonetic Orchestra in Pirelli HangarBicocca is composed of:

Jonathan Heilbron, double bass
Brett Thompson, guitar
Callum G'Froerer, trumpet
Hector Rey, violin
Rebecca Lane, flutes
Joseph Houston, piano
