More than a thousand English hooligans return to the scene in Marseille and raise hell before and after the Euro match between England and Russia. Dramatic clashes in the heart of the city between opposing fans and between protesters and the police. Charges, tear gas and pepper spray by the police to try to curb the devastating fury of the hooligans.
The balance of the clashes that ruined the festive and sporting atmosphere of the 2016 European Football Championships in Marseille is very heavy: an English fan is dying and a Russian is very seriously and, in total, 31 injured.
Clashes like this with hooligans have not happened since the 2000 European Championships when the same English hooligans devastated Charleroi in Belgium.
UEFA has opened an investigation into the clashes at the stadium.
