War on the surreal cadastre: undermining the Draghi government in times of real war? Incredible

The war on the land registry of centre-right parties risks creating a government crisis in real wartime and causing Italy to lose billions and credibility: comedy or tragedy?

War on the surreal cadastre: undermining the Draghi government in times of real war? Incredible

La land registry war, already questionable in normal times, it is simply surreal in times of real war like the one madly unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. If the dramatic general situation we are experiencing these days did not force us to focus on more serious things, the recent parliamentary surge of the right of Brothers of Italy, of the League and of Forza Italia against the land registry reform, he would have already traveled around the world and won the Guinness Book of Records for his unsustainable ruthlessness at a time when Italy needs unity and cohesion more than ever.

Land Registry War: What's Happening?

The facts are known. Despite the reassurances of the Draghi government on the fact that the update of the cadastre it will not cost the citizens a penny and that only the Government in office in 2026 will decide how to use the new cadastral data, a possible halt to the reform of the cadastre would cause Italy to lose much credibility, even more than the funds of the PNRR. Why? Because this reform - while not strictly falling within the perimeter of the Pnrr - is part of the tax reform that accompanies the reforms indicated by the European Commission as essential for achieving the general objectives of the Plan from which the shower of resources with the Next Generation Eu descends. Despite all of this, right-wing groups have stubbornly pursued theirs parliamentary opposition to the measure of the Government which was saved by just one vote from a clamorous defeat in the Finance Commission of the Chamber which would have led to the crisis.

Government crisis in times of war and crisis of a government presided over by the most esteemed Italian in the world? It would be laughable if it weren't dramatic and one wonders if Giorgia Meloni, Matteo Salvini and Silvio Berlusconi live on earth or on the moon. And if they remember the first rule of a good politician: evaluate beforehand the effects that each move, beyond its specific value, can produce. However, we would need a general vision in which to place one's political action which is a slightly more complex issue than the simple hunt for a few more consensuses.

On the cadastre a vote against the national interest

Their vote is not against a single provision or even just against the Draghi government, but it is against the national interest because, if their intransigent opposition to the land registry reform prevailed, Italy would lose face in the face of a Europe that is ready to shower us with money but which, in order to give it to us, rightly demands reform after reform. It would be interesting to see the gentlemen of the right to explain it to the Italians during the next election campaign.

Demagogic and populist proposals they can also earn a few votes but they strike at the heart not so much the Government but the country and there is no rain on this, but it must be explained clearly to the Italians. The best comment on the right's parliamentary war on the cadastre was made by the Minister of Public Administration, Renato Brunetta, who - let's not forget - is from Forza Italia: "Incomprehensible"

Luckily Mario Draghi is not a man to be frightened by ambushes and sticks to reforms, whatever it takes. Has promised reforms to Europe to receive over 200 billion euros and reforms is doing.

In addition to the lies about the land register, what does the right have to promise Italy with its surreal land registry war? Only the risk of losing face in the face of a Europe that is ready to give Italy more resources than the famous Marshall Plan brought to our country. We really needed the political imagination (so to speak, of course) of the Brothers of Italy, the League and Forza Italia to design such a boomerang. But the national interest has never been at the forefront of their thoughts and we have seen it again this time.
