War, De Benedetti is wrong because he ignores Russia's responsibilities and demands the Ukrainian surrender

In the interview with Courier on the conflict in Ukraine, Charles DeBenedetti argues that Biden intends to fto wage war on Russia through the Ukraine, the aid package approved by Congress would prove it: 33 billion dollars, 20 of which in arms.

It is therefore appropriate that Europeans stay away from this story. According to De Benedetti, the Ukrainian resistance is "damage to the world". He advocates theUS exit from NATO arguing that at that point it could be led by the Europeans who, finally, without the US, would become responsible for their own security.

In reality, Moscow would thus achieve the goal pursued for the entire post-war period, first with the USSR and then with Putin: a Europe that breaks with the United States, a laceration between the two pillars of the West. In short, a notable of the Italian bourgeoisie like De Benedetti claims that the Ukrainians fight on behalf of the USA, the only ones interested in wanting war because they "make money in spades".

De Benedetti does not in any way consider that they are the Ukrainians to have decided to resist and fight against the invader of their land. Not only. The ongoing war should be closed for Carlo De Benedetti with the surrender of the Ukrainians and their president, granting Russia the Donbass, the coastal cities on the Black Sea up to probably Odessa, the Crimea, all Russophone and Russophile territories. CDB calls it a compromise. It seems to me a diktat. What would remain of Ukraine would, in exchange for these renunciations, be guaranteed in its security by the USA and the United Kingdom.

Totally absent a judgment on Russia's policy of Putin, a reflection on the risks of a geopolitical nature that are emerging for Europe in the face of Putin's imperial strategy. Not a consideration of the unscrupulous way in which Russia has moved in the last decade to expand its sphere of influence and even its territorial borders. Neither a censure of reprehensible acts with which in 2014 Moscow took over the Crimea and instigated the separatism of Donbass.

On the contrary, CDB allows itself to make fun of fear of Russia from the Baltic countries, Countries that have dramatically suffered for about 50 years of harassment and abuses of the Soviet regime. This is the thought of a notable of the Italian bourgeoisie who does not hide that he also has intellectual ambitions…. Opening a serious negotiation is essential. Zelensky still in these hours has declared his availability. Availability that adds to the explicit declaration already made in recent weeks by the Ukrainian president regarding the neutral nature of future Ukraine. All of this should be matched by a positive gesture from Russia. A truce, a ceasefire. There are no signs in this direction. The truth is that a negotiation conducted in good faith should allow for an honorable compromise to be reached. Maybe that's what Putin doesn't want, an honorable compromise. Try to reflect on this, Carlo De Benedetti.

  1. Umberto Ranieri is wrong because he forgets the previous years.
History did not begin with the Russian intervention, as appears from all our commentators!

Sharable opinions. I was struck by the apodictic nature of CDB's statements, whose personality and intelligence I appreciate anyway. Having said that, I sincerely do not understand the definition of "notable" that the author gives him. CDB seems to me anything but a notable.
