The new economy minister illustrates the lines of the next maneuver: stop the VAT increase, lower taxes for low and medium incomes and more investments are the priorities. All without arguing with Europe

Gualtieri: "Neither flat tax nor capital"

In the plans of the new government there is no longer the flat tax, so dear to Matteo Salvini's League, and it won't be there not even the assets. This was assured by the new Minister of Economy, Roberto Gualtieri, in an interview given to the newspaper La Repubblica on the eve of the Helsinki Ecofin.

As a convinced pro-European that he is, Gualtieri stated that "the continuous clashes with Europe, the proclamations on social media and the absences at the negotiating tables are over: a new phase is opening up in Italy and in Europe and we intend to be protagonists".

Gualtieri also explained that the objectives of the new maneuver budget will be mainly three: avoid the VAT increase, start the reduction of the tax wedge for low and middle income e strengthen investments especially in infrastructure and digitization with the aim of separating the green ones from the calculation of the deficit. There fight against escape with new technologies it will be able to help the Government find the resources necessary to support a economic policy aimed at growth and the reduction of social inequalities.

On the Flat tax, Gualtieri specified that “is archived“, because “we will never do it: it gave so much to those who have more and it was unjust, wrong, unsustainable and unconstitutional because it violated progressivity”. Then the minister has strictly "excluding" any assumption of assets.
