FS Group, RFI: over 200 million for the upgrading of railway infrastructure

Le Italian State Railways take a new step for the upgrading of infrastructures throughout Italy, with the launch of the 200 million euro tender for maintenance on the national grid and the awarding of the works for the electrification of the Palermo – Trapani via Milo. In detail, Rfi - the lead company of the FS Group's Infrastructure Pole - published today, Wednesday 24 May, a race divided into 40 lots of 5 million euro for ordinary maintenance of civil works which covers the entire national territory and is part of the more comprehensive investment plan of 3,5 billion for ordinary and extraordinary maintenance during 2023.

Routine maintenance

Ordinary maintenance of civil works, explains a note, represents a fundamental activity for maintaining or restoring the integrity of railway infrastructures and constantly guaranteeing their safe operation. The works, among others, will allow for interventions to eliminate or prevent damage due to hydrogeological instability and natural disasters, the clearing of mud, snow and ice, maintenance of metal structures, repairs of structural and complementary elements of masonry structures, reinforced concrete or metal works and, finally, the reconstruction of parapets and walkways of bridges, embankments and other works of art.

Awarded works for electrification Palermo – Trapani via Milo

RFI also awarded the tender for the electrification of the Palermo-Trapani railway line, worth 37 million euros, also financed with PNRR funds. The tender was won by the Sifel company and concerns the 87 km connection between Cinisi and Alcamo, in the direction of Trapani. In particular, along the railway line that crosses the provinces of Palermo and Trapani, the necessary systems for the electrification of the line and four new electrical substations will be built in the localities of Partinico, Alcamo, Bruca and Milo. For the completion of the work, Filippo Palazzo was appointed as Extraordinary Government Commissioner.
