Green Pass for planes, trains, ships and buses: when it's needed and when it's not

From Wednesday 1st September they arrive the new rules on the green pass. The changes concern above all Transports. To take planes, ships, trains and buses you will need the green certificate. But not on all occasions.

When you need it and when you need the green pass for transport? Precisely to answer these questions, the Ministry of Infrastructure has published guidelines that will serve as the basis for the plans to upgrade transport that the regions and autonomous provinces will have to send to the ministry by 2 September. Let's see all the options.

THE NEWS FOR THE PLANES

From 1 September to 31 December 2021, a green pass will be required to board any plane. The obligation applies to both longer and shorter routes. On planes, also given the presence of filters that guarantee continuous air exchange, the maximum capacity allowed is 100%, while on shuttle buses that take passengers from the gate to the plane it drops to 80%. For embarkation and disembarkation operations, the guidelines invite, when possible, to use the fingers.

Finally, together with the green pass, it will be necessary to present a self-certification stating that they have not had contact with people affected by Covid-19 "in the last two days of the onset of symptoms and up to 14 days after the onset of the same; the 14-day term is reduced to 7 in the case of vaccinated travellers".

SHIPS AND FERRIES

Mandatory green pass until the end of the year also for access to ships and ferries carrying out inter-regional transport. In these cases, the maximum capacity allowed is 80%. Excluded from these rules are the ferries that cross the Strait of Messina, connecting Sicily and Calabria, subject to the rules established for the connection to and from the smaller islands.

TRAINS: WHEN IS THE GREEN CERTIFICATION NEEDED?

Is the green certification mandatory to take a train? It depends on the type of train. In detail, the green pass is required for high-speed trains, intercity (day and night), interregional trains. In all three cases the capacity levels were raised from 50% to 80%. Together with the green pass, you must also present a self-certification with which you can certify that you have not had contact with Covid patients, undertaking to communicate the possible onset of Covid symptoms.

The green pass is not necessary for regional trains, even if they travel between two different regions.

BUS, TRAM AND METRO

The green pass is not even needed to board trams, metro and local public transport buses. However, other limitations are foreseen: 80% capacity in the yellow and white area, mandatory mask, separate entry and exit, open windows.

Green certification is instead mandatory for long-distance buses that connect at least two regions and buses used for rental services with driver. In summary, if you get on an urban or regional bus, the green pass is not needed, but if you go to another region or use the rental with driver, yes.

CABLE CARS, CHAIR LIFTS, CABLE CARS

Green certification is also not mandatory for cable cars, chair lifts and gondola lifts.
