The European Green Digital Coalition (EGDC) is an initiative of some companies, supported by the European Commission and the European Parliament, which aims to exploit the potential of reduction of emissions digital solutions to achieve a reduction in emissions in all other sectors, even those not directly connected with ICT.

Companies that are part of the Green Digital coalition

Officially launched on the occasion of Digital Day 2021 in Porto, it consists of 26 CEOs of ICT companies who have signed a Declaration in support of the EU's Green and Digital Transformation. TIM has signed this declaration with the main objective of bringing forward to 2040 the achievement of the objective "net zero“, envisaged by the “European Climate Law” for 2050, to underline the commitment to reduce emissions from its production chain and to choose increasingly sustainable suppliers.

The conditions for joining the coalition

THEentry into the European Green Digital Coalition represents further confirmation of the centrality of ESG objectives in the Industrial Plan of the TIM Group. Climate strategy, circular economy, digital growth and enhancement of human capital are the main pillars on which the Group focuses in order to offer people and businesses the opportunities for a digital transformation based on sustainability.

The Coalition, with the acquisition of signatories such as TIM and its CEO, intends to demonstrate the enabling role of the telecommunications industry in achieving climate objectives, contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions both directly and indirectly, through the development and distribution of green and efficient digital solutions also in other sectors such as energy, transport, agriculture and construction. The Coalition will also collaborate with some European organizations for the definition of standards that can scientifically prove the reduction of emissions through the implementation of digital solutions.

TIM advances and its best practice

The recent validation of the objectives of decarbonization by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi): compared to 2019, TIM will in fact reduce - by 2030 - by 75% the emissions deriving from the company's production activity (Scope 1) and from the purchase of electricity ( Scope 2), also thanks to the commitment to purchase 100% renewable energy by 2025, as well as reducing the emissions of its value chain by 47% (Scope 3) relating to the purchase of goods, services, capital goods and the use of products sold to customers.
