This morning the Bundestag gave the green light to the third 86 billion euro aid package for Greece. Of the 585 deputies present, 454 voted in favor and 113 against, while 18 abstained. This was announced by the speaker of the lower house of the German parliament, Norbert Lammert.

In the debate that preceded the vote, the Finance Minister, Wolfgang Schaeuble, invited those present to approve the plan to bring Greece back to "walk on its own feet". After everything that has happened in the past months, there is no guarantee that this solution will succeed and there are always doubts. But considering that the Greek Parliament has already approved most of the agreed reform measures, it would be irresponsible not to take the opportunity to offer Greece a new chance to start over".

Yesterday evening, during the meeting of the CDU-CSU parliamentary group, 56 deputies from Chancellor Angela Merkel's party announced their vote against.
