Athens will pay the 312 million installment due to the IMF on June 5, because by then the agreement with the creditors will be reached. The Greek Finance Minister said, Yanis Varoufakis, announcing a bank transaction tax and an amnesty on hidden overseas deposits by taxing them at 15%.
“I am a chronic optimist – the most criticized representative of the government of Alexis Tsipras explained to CNN – I can say that we will make the payment and I have no doubts that in the end we will reach an agreement with the European institutions and partners”, explained Varoufakis, underlining that “everyone knows that the Greek state cannot pay without an agreement”. The minister recalled that the government has honored "all obligations for four months, using up all liquidity resources", but denied that there is no more money in hand.
